The Only Golf Range in the Rhondda
There's no other driving range in the Rhondda Valley.
Not one. In a community of tens of thousands of people, if you wanted to go and hit golf balls (really work on your game, get some feedback, practice without booking a tee time) you had to leave the valley entirely.
That always bothered me.
Why I Took This On
I'm Matt. I'm a PGA Professional, and I've spent my career coaching people to play better and enjoy the game more.
When I found the range at Penrhys it had been sitting mothballed. Closed up, unused - the kind of thing that gets written off. Most people drove past and saw a dead end. I saw something different. A community that deserved a proper place to play, and a facility that just needed someone to believe in it.
So I took it on.
Golf has a reputation problem in communities like the Rhondda. It's seen as expensive, exclusive, complicated - a sport for people with more time and money than most of us have. That reputation isn't entirely wrong. But it's not the whole story either. And bringing this place back to life felt like a chance to do something about that.
The range is now sixteen Toptracer bays. There's a GC Quad performance studio. A proper place to hit balls, get coached, track your progress, and actually enjoy the game - right here in Penrhys, in the heart of the Rhondda.
